Best songs inspired by a book

Nirvana:Scentless Apprentice
inspired by Patrick Suskid's "Perfume"

The song was inspired by the novel "Perfume", which talks about a man with a keen sense of smell but with no smell of his own.In his effort to create the best perfume he becomes the murderer of young girls and steals their smell. The lyrics were written by Kurt Cobain, while Dave Grohl came up with the guitar riff for the song.In "With the lights out" combilation, there is a 9 min version of the song.

Radiohead:Exit music (for a film)
inspired by William Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet"

The song was written after Baz
Luhrman, the director of the 1996 movie "Romeo & Juliet" had sent Radiohead a tape of the last part of the film and asked them to write some music about the closing credits (hence the name "Exit music").Radiohead also contributed to the soundtrack of the film with another song, "Talk Show Host". "Exit music..." also borrows some lines of the original play:"...now we are one,in everlasting peace...".The song is included in Radiohead's 1997 album "OK Computer", one of the most important rock albums of the 90's.

The Twilight Singers:Martin Eden
The title and the theme of the song were taken by the autobiography of writer Jack London. The book is about a sailor who gains fame but ends up commiting suicide,as Jack London did...The song can be found in the Twilight Singers 2003 album "Blackberry Belle".
